Friday Fiver - Changing Books

What's the first book you bought with your own money?

I think it was the sweet valley twins series when I was about 9. I wasn't allowed to buy sweet valley high or sweet dreams novels at the time because my parents thought they were 'too old' for me.

Did you sneakily read books that would have been disapproved of by your family? What did you think of them?

Yes. I read a lot of romance when I was younger and used to hide it from my parents because they didn't want me reading books that had sex scenes in them. I was 11, so I guess that was understandable.

Who was your first favourite author, and why? Do you still consider him or her among your favorites?

When I was 10 or 11, it was Francine Pascal and her sweet valley high series. Of course, I was shattered to find out 'Francine Pascal' eventually was just a name associated with the books and there were other writers. It was kind of like Nancy Drew. I definitely do not class her a favorite writer anymore.

Who is the most recent addition to your list of favourite authors, and why?
Nalini Singh. Firstly, she is a New Zealand writer. Secondly, she is a really good writer and I like her Psy-Chalenging series.

If someone asked you who your favourite authors were right now, which authors would first pop out of your mouth? Are there any you would add on a moment of further reflection?

J.R Ward, Beverly Barton, Carrie Vaughn, Alison Weir, and Cassandra Clare pop to mind.
